SATNAC 2016: Broadband Evolution – “Unlocking the Internet of Things”

SATNAC, the annual Southern Africa Telecommunication Networks and Applications Conference, is hosted by Telkom, in partnership with sponsors from the industry. This year’s event will be held from 4 to 7 Septemberat Fancourt in George.

The theme of this year’s conference is Broadband Evolution – Unlocking the Internet of Things.  Now, in its 19th year, SATNAC is heralded as one of the premier ICT discussion platforms on the continent. It brings together leaders, academia and operators across the telecommunications industry.

During the three day conference a number of plenary sessions and presentations will focus on how the broadband evolution has changed the way we do business both locally and globally, with speakers and panellists representing telecommunication operators and vendors from local and international organisations.

SATNAC has proven to be an excellent networking platform for the ICT industry and prides itself on being an ideal forum for postgraduate students to highlight successes achieved on their research.

SATNAC Chairperson, Mr Alphonzo Samuels, says: “By providing this very important platform for the industry, academia and operators to present and debate strategic direction in the ICT sector as well as affording postgraduate students an opportunity to highlight their research successes, we believe we are contributing to the benefit the sector makes to the economy.”

Closely linked to SATNAC is Telkom’s Centres of Excellence (CoE) programme, which was established 19 years ago with a specific focus on building advanced research capabilities at institutions of higher education. The programme has shown tremendous growth since its inception and, to date, boasts 15 Centres of Excellence across the country at leading universities.
